In construction as in mining, heavy machinery demands constant supervision: that is what prevents breakdowns, reduces downtime and maintains performance. An unplanned failure translates into significant financial losses and project delays.
Manufacturers and system integrators wanting to build their own telematics offering often run into closed boxes on which they can neither deploy their business logic nor evolve the processing.
The solution
Built on an open Linux platform, the owa5X telematics unit gives manufacturers and system integrators the freedom to develop fully customized solutions: data analytics, automation, remote monitoring.
1. Electronics sized for local processing
The owa5X is powered by an i.MX8 M Plus quad-core A53 64-bit processor, with up to 4 GB of LPDDR4, 2 GB of NAND Flash SLC and 32 GB of eMMC Flash: enough to run complex computations and store the relevant operational data locally.
2. Global connectivity
Designed to integrate with off-highway vehicles, the unit collects and transmits critical data in real time. Thanks to Global LTE Cat 4, operators can access engine performance, fuel consumption or hydraulic system status from anywhere; WiFi and Bluetooth handle communication with the other devices on site.
3. Predictive maintenance
Continuously analysing sensor data makes it possible to detect anomalies and early signs of failure. This proactive approach reduces unexpected breakdowns and maintenance costs, and extends the lifespan of the equipment. The device supports up to four CAN FD buses, allowing consistent collection across several vehicle subsystems.
4. Ruggedness and operational safety
The IP67 / IP6K9K enclosure offers full protection against dust and water ingress, including high-pressure cleaning. The unit withstands extreme weather conditions and vibrations. It also monitors safety-critical parameters and can alert managers in the event of engine overheating, excessive vibration or unsafe operational behavior.

Telematics makes it possible to optimize routing, reduce fuel consumption and improve asset utilization: location tracking, idling time measurement, monitoring of actual machine usage.
