PCAN-Explorer 7 is a comprehensive, professional software tool designed to interact with CAN CC (Classic), CAN FD, and CAN XL buses. By connecting to one or more CAN buses, the user gains access to numerous features for monitoring CAN traffic and observing individual messages or specific data signals. Sending messages manually or periodically allows direct action on the bus, whether for control or simulation purposes.
The symbolic representation of CAN messages is a key aspect of the software. Using PEAK-System Symbol files or compatible third-party databases, the application instantly converts hexadecimal CAN identifiers and payload data into a readable, easily interpretable format.
The trace function records data traffic and replays existing traces, from or to multiple buses simultaneously. For in-depth analysis, playback can be performed step by step or with breakpoints. Received CAN messages and recordings can be filtered according to various criteria.
Specific requirements and the automation of elaborate processes can be covered by simple macros, advanced Python or VBScript scripts, and callback functions. The entire PCAN-Explorer 7 object model is accessible via Python and VBScript.
PCAN-Explorer's functionality can also be extended. PEAK-System provides add-ins that enhance data presentation and processing capabilities, add compatibility with third-party formats such as CANdb or ARXML, and provide support for standards such as J1939.
CAN XL
CAN XL (Extended Data-Field Length) was developed to promote interoperability with automotive Ethernet and to enable the transfer of larger volumes of data, particularly in use cases such as ECU flashing. This new standard allows the transmission of up to 2048 bytes of payload data per message at speeds of up to 20 Mbit/s.
