Programmable RS-232 to CAN conversion module
The PCAN-RS-232 is a programmable converter that handles communication between an RS-232 link and a CAN bus. Data stream conversion is based on the NXP LPC21 microcontroller.
The behavior of the PCAN-RS-232 can be fully customized to suit the application's needs. Firmware is developed using the development kit built around the GNU compiler for C and C++, then loaded into the module via the CAN bus. Several source code examples are supplied to make it easier to implement custom solutions.
Out of the factory, the PCAN-RS-232 comes with default firmware that forwards CAN frames to the RS-232 link and vice versa. Data transfer and hardware configuration are set via control commands sent over the serial port. The source code for this reference firmware is included with delivery.
Requirements
A PEAK-CAN interface is required to load the firmware via the CAN bus.
