CAN FD to IP network gateway in DIN rail housing

The PCAN-Ethernet Gateway FD DR provides access to both classic CAN buses and CAN FD buses via an IP network. Several units can also link CAN buses together over the IP protocol. CAN frames are encapsulated in TCP or UDP packets, then routed via the IP network to a remote device. This module features one LAN port and two CAN FD interfaces supporting bit rates of up to 10 Mbit/s. An AM5716 Sitara processor supplies the required computing power.

The PCAN-Gateway range is configured via an intuitive web interface. The JSON interface provides an alternative for software-based control. Both access methods provide information on device status, settings, communication interfaces, message routing and filters.

The CAN FD (Flexible Data rate) standard is mainly distinguished by an increased data transfer capacity. Each frame can carry up to 64 bytes of payload data (compared with 8 previously) at a bit rate of up to 10 Mbit/s. CAN FD maintains backward compatibility with the CAN 2.0 A/B standard, allowing CAN FD nodes to be integrated into an existing CAN network (the extended CAN FD features cannot, however, be used in this case).
