CAN and CAN FD board for PCI Express Mini (PCIe) slots
The PCAN-miniPCIe FD is a CAN expansion board in the PCI Express Mini format. Its compact size makes it an ideal solution for connecting embedded systems to up to 4 CAN or CAN FD networks. Galvanic isolation of up to 300 volts separates the computer side from the CAN side. This board is available in single-, dual-, and quad-channel versions.
The CAN FD (Flexible Data rate) standard stands out above all for its increased bandwidth for data transfer. Up to 64 bytes of payload data (versus 8 previously) can be transmitted at a bit rate of up to 12 Mbit/s. CAN FD ensures backward compatibility with the CAN 2.0 A/B standard, allowing CAN FD nodes to be used on an existing CAN network (though the CAN FD extensions cannot be used in this case).
The PCAN-View display software and the PCAN-Basic programming interface, both CAN FD compatible, are included in the delivery.
CAN FD ISO / Non-ISO
Since its first implementations, the CAN FD protocol has evolved and is now included in the ISO 11898-1 standard. This revised version, however, is not compatible with the earlier version of the protocol.
PEAK-System accounts for this situation by supporting both protocol versions in its CAN FD interfaces. Users can therefore switch between ISO and non-ISO modes at any time via software. Products marketed before February 2015 require a firmware update to benefit from this feature. For further information, contact info.peak@hms-networks.com.
