CAN and CAN FD board for the PCI Express bus

With the PCAN-PCI Express FD board, a PC fitted with PCI Express connectors can communicate with CAN and CAN FD networks. Galvanic isolation of up to 500 volts separates the computer side from the CAN side. Available in single-channel, two-channel and four-channel versions.

The CAN FD (Flexible Data rate) standard is essentially characterized by increased transfer capacity. Each frame can contain up to 64 bytes of data (compared with 8 previously), transmitted at bit rates of up to 12 Mbit/s. Backward compatible with the CAN 2.0 A/B standard, CAN FD allows CAN FD nodes to be inserted into an existing CAN network (although the CAN FD extensions remain inoperative in this case).

The PCAN-View monitor and the PCAN-Basic programming interface, intended for developing applications communicating over the CAN bus, are included in the delivery and support the CAN FD standard.

CAN FD ISO / Non-ISO

The CAN FD protocol has evolved since its first implementations and is now part of the ISO 11898-1 standard. This revised version, however, is not compatible with the original protocol.

PEAK-System addresses this constraint by supporting both versions of the protocol on its CAN FD interfaces. Users can thus switch between ISO and Non-ISO modes via software depending on their environment. Devices delivered before February 2015 require a firmware update to benefit from this capability.
