CAN and CAN FD interface for High-Speed USB 2.0

The PCAN-USB FD CAN FD adapter connects CAN FD and CAN networks to a computer via USB. Galvanic isolation up to 500 volts protects the PC from the CAN bus. Its intuitive handling and compact plastic housing make it a tool perfectly suited to fieldwork.

The CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data rate) standard is distinguished above all by increased bandwidth for data transfer. Each CAN FD frame can carry up to 64 bytes of data (compared to 8 previously) at bit rates of up to 12 Mbit/s. Backward compatible with the CAN 2.0 A/B standard, CAN FD allows CAN FD nodes to be integrated into existing CAN networks. However, the CAN FD-specific extensions cannot then be used.

The PCAN-View monitoring software as well as the PCAN-Basic programming interface, dedicated to developing applications that communicate over the CAN bus, are included in the delivery and support the CAN FD standard.

ISO / Non-ISO CAN FD

Since its earliest implementations, the CAN FD protocol has been improved and is now included in the ISO 11898-1 standard. This revised version of CAN FD is not compatible with the original protocol.

PEAK-System addresses this constraint by supporting both versions of the protocol on its CAN FD interfaces. Users can thus switch by software between "Non-ISO" mode and "ISO" mode depending on the environment used. Devices delivered before February 2015 require a firmware update to benefit from this feature. For further information, contact
