Portable diagnostic tool for CAN and CAN FD networks

PCAN-Diag FD avec station de recharge

The PCAN-Diag FD is a portable instrument dedicated to diagnosing traffic on a CAN bus. Its diagnostic capabilities cover both the protocol layer, with support for CAN 2.0 and CAN FD frames, and the physical layer, thanks to a built-in oscilloscope and voltage and resistance measurement tools.

The built-in oscilloscope allows a qualitative assessment of the signal on the CAN bus. Two independent measurement channels sample the CAN-High and CAN-Low lines at a frequency of up to 100 MHz. Depending on the signal propagation, the PCAN-Diag FD decodes the CAN frames and displays their components in the graphic area.

At the protocol layer, received CAN traffic is displayed as a list, with the option of a symbolic display to make interpretation easier. A built-in tracer records CAN traffic for later analysis. On the transmit side, it is possible to send individual CAN messages or complete sequences on the connected bus, in particular to request diagnostic data. Previously saved CAN traces can also be replayed. All protocol-layer functions are available in both CAN 2.0 and CAN FD.

The CAN FD (Flexible Data rate) standard is mainly distinguished by increased data transfer capacity. Each frame can contain up to 64 bytes of payload data (compared with 8 previously) at a bit rate of up to 12 Mbit/s. CAN FD is backward compatible with the CAN 2.0 A/B standard, which allows CAN FD nodes to be integrated into an existing CAN network (although the extended CAN FD features cannot be used in that case).

The PCAN-Diag FD is easy to use thanks to a navigation dial and four function keys. The device can be powered by an external source or by its internal batteries, which recharge automatically when an external power supply is connected. An optional charging station makes it possible to speed up the recharging process.
